PETS MATTER
City of Dallas Parks & Recreation Department Partnership
Did you know that 83% of DISD students live below the federal poverty line? Did you know that DISD does not include humane education in any part of their curriculum? That's why we've developed the PetsMatter program. For only pennies per child, CFL is providing materials, resources, and lesson plans for local teachers, counselors, and educators through partnerships with Dallas' Parks & Recreation, Dallas Environmental & Health Services, city-run after-school programs and summer camps, children’s shelters and hospitals and more.
PetsMatter is providing humane education videos and workbooks for the City of Dallas Parks & Recreation Department’s 44 after-school programs, serving approximately 3,500 children.
PetsMatter is providing humane education workbooks for the City of Dallas Parks & Recreation Department’s Send a Kid to Camp Program. Send A Kid To Camp is a community-funded initiative that will serve approximately 1,300 children in 2006.
PetsMatter is providing human education videos for the waiting rooms of the City of Dallas Health and Environmental Services health clinics for low-income families. These clinics see approximately 3,500 people each month, 80% of which are Hispanic. They focus on children from birth through age 10.
PetsMatter is also providing humane education videos for the children’s library at Scottish Rite Hospital and soon hope to expand to other children’s hospitals and clinics, homeless shelters that accommodate kids, and women’s shelters.
PetsMatter is made possible by the generous support of individual donors and The Erin Wylie Fund of the Dallas Foundation. Each video is professionally produced by organizations such as the ASPCA, HSUS, the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago, and NAHEE. Workbooks are provided by the ASPCA’s education department and are totally reproducible so they can be used over and over. The videos and workbooks cost very little – on average only 33 cents per child to date, and they will be available for years to come!
Together these programs have the potential to reach tens of thousands of students for only a few cents each! But we need your help. Please consider donating now!
